Learning not to hold resentment against others

Resentment arises from misunderstanding. The better we understand the other, the less room there is for resentment.

Everyone knows the unbearable feeling of resentment — you feel sorry for yourself and form a negative impression of the offender. But it doesn't have to be your constant companion.

How resentment arises and how to avoid it

Resentment appears through misunderstanding. The better you understand a close person, the lower the chance of dissonance. All you need is to:

  • Not expect from a person what they cannot give. Try to take situations more calmly, looking at them from the other's point of view.
  • Resolve misunderstandings through conversation. It isn't always easy to explain that words or actions hurt you, but resentment can harm both your psyche and your relationships.

Romantic, friendly and family relationships become harmonious when you learn to resolve conflicts soberly.
